This post is the first in a series which will give you some useful information on different types of videos, where to find the resources you need, why you should use them, and where you should put them, etc..

Videos are becoming more and more widely used on the internet as a very effective means of reaching people.  They are an excellent means of building trust, branding yourself, and teaching people.  There are several different types of videos available that you can use to get your message across to people.  You can put them up on the pages of your site or have them hosted elsewhere, e.g. YouTube and just have the links on your site.

The first type of video is the ‘screenshot’ type, such as is available from Jing.  You can make a short (5 minutes maximum) video of your screen and upload it to your website, or share it with friends via social media, etc..  You can also use Jing to take ‘stills’ but I just want to concentrate on using it for video in this post.  You can use the free version, which creates a video in the SWF file format and also carries the Jing brand, or you can pay the handsome sum of $14.95/year which will give you the additional choice of an MPEG-4 file format, no Jing branding, can be uploaded instantly to YouTube, and can also be recorded from a webcam.

Here is a screenshot (taken with Jing, of course!) of their website:-

You can capture, edit and share images from your Mac or PC instantly using Jing.  The home site has loads of informative tutorials.  The URL is www.techsmith.com/jing/.

I have also made a video using my Jing, which you can watch here:-
