Food For Thought:

I received this information via email today and felt that it was very worth passing on – it is definitely food for thought!  I checked it out and found that the following post was put on Ben Stein’s website on December 18, 2005, apparently in response to the White House referring to Christmas trees as ‘Holiday Trees’:

“Herewith at this happy time of year, a few confessions from my beating heart:

I have no clue who Nick and Jessica are.  I see them on the cover of People and Us constantly when I am buying my dog biscuits and kitty litter.  I often ask the checkers at the grocery stores. They never know who Nick and Jessica are either.  Who are they?  Will it change my life if I know who they are and why they have broken up?  Why are they so important?  I don’t know who Lindsay Lohan is, either, and I do not care at all about Tom Cruise’s wife.

Am I going to be called before a Senate committee and asked if I am a subversive?  Maybe, but I just have no clue who Nick and Jessica are.  Is this what it means to be no longer young.  It’s not so bad.

Using Videos

This post is the first in a series which will give you some useful information on different types of videos, where to find the resources you need, why you should use them, and where you should put them, etc..

Videos are becoming more and more widely used on the internet as a very effective means of reaching people.  They are an excellent means of building trust, branding yourself, and teaching people.  There are several different types of videos available that you can use to get your message across to people.  You can put them up on the pages of your site or have them hosted elsewhere, e.g. YouTube and just have the links on your site.

The first type of video is the ‘screenshot’ type, such as is available from Jing.  You can make a short (5 minutes maximum) video of your screen and upload it to your website, or share it with friends via social media, etc..  You can also use Jing to take ‘stills’ but I just want to concentrate on using it for video in this post.  You can use the free version, which creates a video in the SWF file format and also carries the Jing brand, or you can pay the handsome sum of $14.95/year which will give you the additional choice of an MPEG-4 file format, no Jing branding, can be uploaded instantly to YouTube, and can also be recorded from a webcam.

Here is a screenshot (taken with Jing, of course!) of their website:-

Submitting Your Feeds To RSS Sites

I want to make this point clear to you before we get into the actual feed submission –

  • You will only have to submit your feeds ONCE because every time you put new content out on the web, using the sites that you have already submitted a feed for, the content is automatically updated and put out to your subscribers.
  • This means that you will only have to submit the feeds of any NEW sites that you create or use in the future.

It is time to take all the feeds for your own content that you have collected and submit them to different RSS sites.

This means that every time you publish a new article, write a new blog post, make a new video, etc., you will be building backlinks to your site/s automatically.

Before I show you where to submit your feeds, I want to explain to you how you can find more feeds that belong to you, so you can gain even more web exposure and backlinks to your blog or website.  You can then submit all your feeds to the RSS sites together.

Every piece of content that you have up on the web should have an RSS feed which you need to get hold of and make a list of –

  • Major article directories
  • Your video channels
  • Your social bookmarking sites
  • Blogs
  • Websites
